The sponsor of the workshop was the University of Albany Rockefeller College Public Service Workshops Program.
The two-day workshop took place on August 19-20, 2019 and was located at the NY Public Employees Federation (PEF) training center on Airline Drive in Albany, NY. The purpose of the workshop was to prepare NY DOT and DEC employees for the Fundamentals of Surveying Exam. Successful completion of the FS exam is required for Land Surveying In Training (LSIT) licensure.
The FS exam is now a computer (not paper) exam, and the workshop included demonstration of various traditional as well as spreadsheet-based data reduction techniques. Attendees were presented with practice problems on coordinate geometry and traverse reductions, horizontal and vertical curve calculations, and map projections, in addition to other topics. The structure of the workshop was in keeping with the NCEES outline of topics to be included on the FS exam. Additionally, students were provided with a 60 question sample exam to reinforce the practice questions which were completed during our in-class
